DURHAM REGION – April 18th was an evening of awards and presentations for the Durham Region Association of REALTORS® as they held their Annual General Meeting at Sikorski Polish Veterans Hall in Oshawa.
Past President, Christine Marquis, presented the 2012 W. Paul Ristow Founder’s Cup to Director Laurel McHale, in recognition of her exemplary commitment and service to the Association, through her position as Education Chair and efforts to increase DRAR membership.
President, Ian Smith, presented the 3rd Annual DRAR Community Spirit Award to Janice Parish in recognition of her outstanding contribution to community life in Durham Region through her dedication to a number of charities such as Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Girl Guides, Sick Kids Foundation, Newcastle Lions Club and funds raised for the Clarington East Food Bank.
DRAR Member Ryan Belmonte gave an overview of the Lakeridge Health Initiative, an ongoing campaign to raise funds for Lakeridge Health to show consumers that local REALTORS® give back to the communities in which they live and work. Contributing to the presentation were Bob Baker, CEO of Lakeridge Health Foundation and Dr. Benjamin Fuller, Chief & Medical Director of Critical Care and Emergency Medicine at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
In addition to this new initiative, DRAR members voted to continue supporting the REALTORS Care™ Foundation's Every REALTOR Campaign by donating $1 per member per month. These campaign funds have supported local Durham charities such as Precious Minds, Muslim Welfare House, Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre, Bethesda House, Nova's Ark and Durham Deaf Services.
