Our Vision - To offer personalized service and be the core resource provider to our members continued success.

Who We Are...

Past - The Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) formerly the Durham Region Real Estate Board (DRREB), was founded in 1954 by W. Paul Ristow. Ristow along with a group of brokers, met out of a common interest to address the growing need for establishing real estate standards of the real estate practice in Eastern Ontario.

Present - DRAR is a Member service organization of over 900 Members. The Association President along with a group of seven Directors work with Committee Members, the Executive Officer, and staff to ensure Members continue to receive quality services and resources.

Future- DRAR will continue to promote a high ethical standard for REALTORS®; by providing vital services, benefits and training needed to succeed. DRAR is committed to building a strong service oriented Association for Members.

Durham REALTORS® Care

Members of DRAR care deeply about the community they live and work in. A caring community contributes to a healthy and vibrant real estate market and everyone benefits from that. As an Association DRAR has donated over $70,000.00 to area charities and hospitals. For more information contact us.

President's Message

Ian Smith
Durham Region Association of REALTORS®
2013 President

Welcome, and thank-you for visiting the Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) website.
At DRAR our Member slogan is, "Durham REALTORS®, We Work Where You Live." Our Members not only pride themselves by living in the community they work in, but are dedicated to the success of your real estate experience.

A DRAR Member REALTOR®...

  • is a member of the Canadian Real Estate Association and the Ontario Real Estate Association;
  • has access to the Multiple Listing Service® System;
  • is licensed with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO);
  • continually develops their skills with continuing education courses and;
  • is familiar with the legal aspects of a real estate transaction.
The term REALTOR® is sometimes misinterpreted and is not a substitute for a "licensed" status. The REALTOR® and associated marks refer to real estate professionals in Canada who are members of the Canadian Real Estate Association and, as such, subscribe to a high standard of professional service and a strict Code of Ethics. Only licensed members of the Canadian Real Estate Association are allowed to use the REALTOR® marks in reference to themselves or their real estate business.

Whether you are a first time buyer or you have been through a real estate transaction before. You will want to enlist the services of a qualified REALTOR®. Durham REALTORS® are committed professionals who contribute to local community activities and initiatives, and are knowledgeable about the local market and area trends.

I encourage you to browse this site to find market information, search for an open house and find a Durham REALTOR®, who will be happy to support you and your real estate needs.

Dependably yours,
Ian Smith, President

Interested in becoming a Real Estate Professional?

In order to become a real estate professional candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive program of study to prepare them for the complex business of trading in real estate. This program was developed by the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) on behalf of the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO).

The OREA Real Estate College offers this education in three formats: online, by correspondence and in the classroom.

Steps to becoming a Real Estate Professional:

  1. Complete the Pre-Registration Courses with the OREA Real Estate College.
  2. Obtain employment with a registered brokerage.
  3. Apply for registration as a Salesperson with the Real Estate Council of Ontario within one year of successfully completing your last Pre-Registration course.
  4. Articling Period - a mandatory 24-month period following a student's registration as a Salesperson where three additional courses must be completed.
  5. Renewal of Salesperson Registration.

In addition, all registrants must continue to attend courses throughout their careers in order to maintain their registration. DRAR provides a full curriculum of courses to its members throughout the calendar year to assist them in achieving their continuing education requirements.
