DURHAM REGION, March 22, 2012 – “Local REALTORS® do much more than trade in real estate. They are committed to improving the Quality of Life in Durham Region by supporting initiatives that ensure economic vitality, provide housing opportunities, preserve the environment, protect home owners and build better communities”, explains Christine Marquis, President of the Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR).
Durham REALTORS® believe a strong economy with full employment remains the single biggest key to our communities’ Quality of Life. We know that economic development brings new opportunities by increasing the number of jobs available, by boosting purchasing power and by growing the tax base – crucial to government’s ability to deliver necessary public services, provide new amenities for neighbourhoods and maintain infrastructure.
DRAR actively supports our local Boards of Trade and Chambers of Commerce that provide services and opportunities to help local businesses grow and prosper. “In addition, the members of DRAR’s Commercial Council are dedicated to working closely with local Economic Development offices to bring new businesses to Durham Region,” adds President Marquis. In order to connect businesses, communities and residents, DRAR continues to support Oshawa Mayor John Henry’s 407 Ramp It Up Campaign urging the province to honour its commitment for the benefit of southern Ontario.
Durham REALTORS® strongly believe that education is the cornerstone of our region’s future prosperity. Every year, DRAR invests in human infrastructure by awarding an education bursary to the child or grandchild of a member to assist them with obtaining post secondary education.
“Local REALTORS® care about what is good for communities and aren’t just interested in the bottom line. We work hard to ensure Durham Region remains a great place to live and work,” expressed Marquis.
