Another big announcement on transportation news for Durham Region, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announces GO train service to be extended into Clarington.
The GO Transit's Lakeshore East rail corridor will offer a new service from Oshawa to Bowmanville, extending nearly 20 kilometres. This extension will include four new stations at Thornton Road in Oshawa, Ritson Road in Oshawa, Courtice Road in Courtice, and Martin Road in Bowmanville.
"The provincial government is giving much needed attention to the transportation infrastructure in Durham Region," says Sandra O'Donohue, President of the Durham Region Association of REALTORS®. "This will greatly improve the value of homes in our neighbourhoods with ease of use directly effecting commuters and therefore increasing demands of these properties."
Currently, the Lakeshore East GO train service go as far as Oshawa, and GO provides bus service between Oshawa and Bowmanville every 30 minutes, with increased frequency at peak hours.
The new GO Transit service is expected to begin 2023-24. "The forecasted extension will inevitably drive growth to Durham Region," says O'Donohue.
