DURHAM REGION - Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) presented three local charities with the proceeds of its Annual Charity Auction that was held in December 2013. Precious Minds, the Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre and The Refuge were selected as the 2013 Charity Auction recipients, and were presented with their cheques on April 9, 2014.
DRAR President Jane Hurst presented a total of $14,663.85 which was evenly distributed between the three charities. "We are so thrilled to have been selected as a recipient of this wonderful donation. We have had a marked increase in the number of children and youth diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes over this past year increasing the stress on our budget. This donation greatly assists us in providing our very BEST in ongoing, individualized diabetes education, management and support to our families" explained Marlene Grass, Founder & Director of Clinical Services at the Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre.
"We at Precious Minds are so grateful for the ongoing support of the Durham Region Association of REALTORS®. As one of the recipients of the 2013 Charity Auction, we truly appreciate the generosity of the REALTORS® in our community and their commitment to partner with us to make a difference in the lives of the families we serve. Precious Minds provides support to families who have children with special needs through summer camps, respite, fitness programs, sibling support and parent support. The generous donation from DRAR will help us provide eight weeks of a meaningful, structured and individualized camp program for children and youth with developmental challenges" remarked Janelle Dayman, Administrative Director at Precious Minds.
“Durham Region REALTORS® have been in the business of finding homes for Durham Region residents for 60 years now…with this donation they have also demonstrated their ongoing care and concern to provide homes for homeless and street youth in our community" added Clarence Kessman, Executive Director of The Refuge.
"We are so excited that we are able to contribute to such important charities within our community" President Hurst stated. "These charities are an integral part of making Durham Region a great place to live".
