DURHAM REGION - Today the Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) announces its decision to support the REALTORS Care® Foundation by participating in its Every REALTOR® Campaign again in 2012. The Foundation acts on behalf of Ontario REALTORS® in funding shelter-related charities across the province. Shelter is defined as a refuge, haven or protection that provides or improves quality of life from hunger, the elements, physical/psychological abuse, disabilities and illness. Since 1999, the Foundation has given more than $2-million in grants to eligible organizations.
“We’re very proud of the great work our Foundation does,” says President Christine Marquis, Durham Region Association of REALTORS®.“That’s why we have made the decision to be more actively involved in raising money for it. It’s an important way we can give back to our community and that we can improve our area’s quality of life.”
The Every REALTOR® Campaign, which began in 2007, is a major money maker for the Foundation. Participating Real Estate Boards/Associations contribute one dollar per Member per month. To date 92% of the approximately 42,000 REALTORS® in the province belong to participating Boards and in 2010 alone, the Campaign raised over half a million dollars for charity.
DRAR is very proud to have donated over $34,000 to the foundation since joining the campaign. Since 2008, a total of $28,000 has come back into Durham Region to support local charities such as the Oshawa Hospital Foundation, Memorial Hospital Foundation, Precious Minds, Muslim Welfare House, Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre, and Bethesda House.
