DURHAM POLICE CHIEF SHARES HIS VISION

DURHAM REGION – On September 21,2007 Durham Regional Police Service Chief Mike Ewles shared his vision for the Durham Region as the special guest speaker at a recent meeting for the Brokers of the Durham Region Association of REALTORS®. In addition to updates on Grow Houses, Chief Ewles addressed the current issues surrounding the identifying of homes used in the production of other illegal substances, including meth and amphetamines.

AUGUST 3, 2007 DURHAM REGION - The Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) Members are joining; the Regional Municipality of Durham, the Town of Ajax, the City of Pickering and the City of Oshawa in supporting our Canadian Troops by applying a commemorative yellow ribbon decal on their vehicles.

DURHAM REGION July 24th, 2007 - The Durham Region Real Estate Board is officially announcing a name change to the Durham Region Association of REALTORS® (DRAR) effective immediately. At the request of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) DRAR along with other member boards, have changed their name to include REALTOR® to further strengthen the REALTOR® trademark. The REALTOR® trademark is an assurance of integrity; the trademark can only be used in Canada by Members of CREA who adopt and abide by a strict Code of Ethics administered by CREA. The new name will better reflect the position of the Association and the 850 plus members it serves.

The Durham Region Association of REALTORS® was formed in 1954 by W. Paul Ristow, who, along with a group of brokers, met out of a common interest to address the growing need for establishing standards of real estate practice in the area. In 1981, DRAR became the first Board in Eastern Ontario to provide its’ members with a computerized, on-line MLS® system. The Association has received many awards of excellence over the years from the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA). Through its’ history, Association members have been actively fund raising for various local charities and are always enthusiastically giving back to the communities they work and live in.

Today DRAR will continue to promote a high ethical standard for its REALTOR® Members by providing vital services, benefits and training needed to exceed client expectations and succeed in this fast-paced industry. DRAR is committed to building a strong service oriented Association for its’ Members.

DURHAM REALTORS®, RAISING MONEY TO BETTER THEIR COMMUNITY

The Durham Region Association of REALTORS® held its’ 2007 Christmas Dinner, Election Meeting and Charity Auction in support of the Port Perry Hospital Foundation’s Lighting the Way Campaign, at General Sikorski Banquet Hall in Oshawa, on December 6th. Members, special guests, and advertisers enjoyed a holiday dinner while plaques and awards were presented and Members bid on live and silent auction items.

Long Service pins were awarded to Members for their 25, 30, and 35 years of dedication to the Association. Lloyd Corson, Guide Realty Ltd., and Harold Segal, Royal LePage Frank Real Estate Ltd., were awarded with 50-year rings in recognition of their long time service to the Association. After plaque and award presentations commenced, the 2008 Board of Director’s were sworn in.

Pat Johnson of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) awarded Member Ralph Roberto of Coldwell Banker RMR-Real Estate, with the CMHC Award of Distinction. Ralph was nominated for the award by his Membership peers. Recipients of the this award display exceptional Association and community involvement, commitment and service to the industry. “I am pleased to receive this award and I thank all who nominated me,” said Ralph upon accepting his award.

DRAR’s newly appointed 2008 President, Deborah Khoury of Royal LePage Frank Real Estate Ltd., made asurprise announcement. Deborah provided a gift for each Member with a card attached that read, you have just experienced a Random Act of Kindness from a Member of the Durham Region Association of REALTORS® Pass it On! “The goal is to spread goodwill within our community and beyond,” stated Deborah.

In addition to spreading goodwill onto others, by passing on the card you will be positively promoting Durham REALTORS® as a group of individuals committed to making a difference in their communities.” Deborah asked that Members who received the Random Act of Kindness pass it on to others, to jumpstart what Deborah hopes to be a, “rippling effect of good deeds throughout the community.”

Doug Brown, Co-Chair of the Lighting the Way campaign in support of the Port Perry Hospital thanked DRAR Members for choosing to raise money for the hospitals campaign; and gave a speech regarding how the money will help the Hospital fulfill its’ many initiatives. “An important aspect of the Campaign is how it will help cancer patients,” said Doug. “Being able to purchase the proper equipment the Hospital needs, will limit emergency room wait times as well as miss diagnoses.”

After the speeches the live auction was kicked off. Both the live and silent auctions went tremendously well bringing in over $10,000 in support of the Hospital’s campaign.
